The Power of Intuition: How to Strengthen Your Inner Guidance

Have you ever had that one friend whose intuition seems eerily accurate? They text or call just when you were thinking of them. They recommend a book you were just considering earlier that day. Or maybe they bring an umbrella on a day forecasted for perfect weather, only for it to rain unexpectedly. These friends seem ever-prepared, plugged into a deeper source of guidance that many of us struggle to understand.

We’ve all experienced that inexplicable sense that nudges us in a certain direction, only to realize later that it was spot on. That’s your intuition speaking. It’s something we all possess, but often, we don’t trust it or even recognize it for what it is. Intuition is a powerful tool, guiding us through life’s challenges and opportunities with wisdom that goes beyond logic. The good news? This superpower is available to all of us with a little practice and focus.

“Have the courage to follow your heart and your intuition.”

Intuition vs. Ego

One of the biggest challenges people face is differentiating between ego and intuition. Here’s how to think about it:

Ego is a complex concept, but at its core, it refers to our sense of self—how we perceive ourselves in relation to the world. In spiritual terms, the ego is often seen as an impediment to growth, potential, and connection to the divine (or whatever term you use). It’s the voice in your mind that focuses on fears, self-doubt, and past disappointments. I like to call it the Inner Critic because it often acts as a barrier to imagination and imposes limits on what we believe we can achieve.

Intuition, on the other hand, is a source of guidance, direction, and wisdom. It’s the force that created your body, nature, and all the beauty around you. Intuition isn’t always logical or immediately understandable, but when we follow it, we often experience incredible luck or mini-miracles. Sometimes, it may seem mundane, yet it’s always useful.

A practical way to start distinguishing between ego and intuition is through muscle testing. There are many methods of muscle testing that you can research online, but here’s a simple exercise to begin learning from your body:

1. Get Comfortable: Lay down or sit comfortably with your eyes closed.

2. Relax: Take a few deep breaths, relaxing your body from your toes to the top of your head.

3. Test Truth vs. Falsehood: Say something you know to be true, like “My name is [your name].” Then, say something you know to be false, such as “My name is Dominic.” (Choose a name that’s very different from yours, possibly even of the opposite sex.)

4. Feel the Difference: Repeat this exercise several times, paying close attention to how your body feels with each statement. You may feel something in the chest, belly, or head. It’s an individual experience. You’ll start to sense the difference between true and false statements in your body.

You can integrate this practice into your daily life by asking yourself questions like:

– Is this the best thing for my body to eat?

– Is watching this show good for me?

– Should I listen to this podcast or that music?

With time and practice, you’ll start to recognize the subtle differences in how your body responds, and you’ll begin to trust your intuition more.

3 Steps to Strengthen Your Intuition

1. Strengthen Your Self-Belief: Self-belief is the foundation of intuition. It’s the inner knowing that you deserve fulfillment, clarity, and abundance. When you have self-doubt and disbelief, that’s your ego at work.

2. Practice Following Intuition: Start by paying attention to even the smallest intuitive messages, even when they don’t make sense. Write them down as a record for later. This practice will help you strengthen your connection to your intuition.

3. Act on Intuitive Guidance: If a thought or feeling keeps coming up, don’t ignore it. Let’s say you keep thinking about an old friend—there’s a reason for that persistent thought. It might be time to reach out, or perhaps something in your current life is reflecting that old relationship. Whatever the message, determine its meaning and write it down.

Your intuition is like a quiet voice within, always present but sometimes drowned out by the noise of daily life. By using the tools I provided, you can develop this inner wisdom into a powerful tool that helps you navigate your life with clarity and confidence. Remember, it’s not about being perfect—it’s about being persistent and trusting the process. Your intuition is there to guide you, so start listening today.
